Worthy Australia

orthy Australia Foundation is a Perth-based charity focused on one critical question that is too often forgotten in the domestic violence response system:

“What happens next?”

Yes, immediate crisis services are imperative. We need better police responses, more safe houses and more refuges. These services save lives and they must continue to be strengthened. But the space too many people are forgetting about is what happens after a woman and her children leave crisis accommodation. Because when women escape violence, they are often moving from crisis into nothing more than four walls.

There is a profound assumption that once housing is secured, the hardest part is over. In reality, that is where a new form of vulnerability begins. Women are expected to rebuild their entire lives from zero. No furniture. No fridge. No beds for children. No basic household stability. Children sleeping on floors. Mothers going without food so they can save for essentials. It is not rebuilding a life with dignity. It is survival in its most stripped-back form.

That is the problem Worthy Australia Foundation exists to solve.

We bridge the gap between crisis and long-term recovery by transforming empty properties into fully functioning homes for women and children escaping domestic violence, homelessness and hardship. We create Safe Havens that are furnished, equipped and liveable from day one. Beds for children. A working fridge. A dining table. Household essentials. A home that feels safe, stable and human. Because housing alone is not recovery. A safe house without basics is still instability. And instability is what drives recurrence back into crisis systems.

Our model recognises that recovery does not begin at “housing secured.” Recovery begins when a home becomes liveable, safe and supportive of rebuilding life, work, parenting and wellbeing. This is not about luxury. It is about stability. It is about dignity. It is about ensuring women and children are not set up to fail the moment they leave refuge. To date, Worthy Australia Foundation has created 97 Safe Havens across Western Australia, helping vulnerable families transition from survival into stability.

And the impact goes far beyond furniture.

It is a mother not having to choose between food and a fridge. It is children sleeping in beds instead of on floors. It is families not returning to crisis accommodation because the “next step” failed them.

Ultimately, our mission is simple:

To ensure that leaving violence is not just an escape, but a genuine pathway into safety, stability and long-term independence. Because a home should be more than four walls. It should be the foundation for rebuilding a life.
