Overview

We recommend you attend this walk as part of your preparation for a Big Heart walk or if you have another walk that you are training for.

Training walks are an opportunity to test your gear, ask questions, gauge your fitness and see how your body responds to walking on consecutive days, on terrain similar to what you can expect on your tour. Your leader for this training walk is likely to have done the Flinders Ranges section of the Heysen Trail, the Cape to Cape or the Nakahechi, and they will offer advice and help with your preparations.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This walk is approximately 17km. Allow 6-7 hours for this walk (depending on group pace).

As a guide we rate this walk as Moderate-Hard, but this grading will vary for each individual based on current level of fitness and experience. The walk includes a mix of sand & beach walking and footpaths.

MEET TIME/LOCATION

Meet at 8.15am for an 8.30am start.

A map with details of the meet location will be sent to you 24-48 hours prior to the walk.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Please bring all items you plan to hike with on your trip (backpack, water bottles/bladder, rain gear, etc)

Please wear the clothing you plan to wear for the walks on your trip, or similar (including boots / shoes)

We recommend bringing worn in comfortable walking shoes/hiking boots if new ones aren’t worn in. We also recommend bringing at least 2 litres of water, personal medications/blister kit, walking poles (if you plan to take them), and snacks/lunch.

We will check the forecast and remind you all what to expect prior to the walk, but weather can be unpredictable, so it is important to be prepared. We recommend wearing warm layerable clothing as the temperature can change quickly, and the extra layers can also keep you warm during breaks.

LEADERS

Our leaders carry group first aid kits, emergency communication devices and are qualified and experienced bushwalking leaders.

CANCELLATIONS

If the weather forecast is for extreme weather or a fire ban is issued for Adelaide, this walk will be cancelled the day before and participants will be notified. A rare same day cancellation may also occur if weather warnings or fire warnings are issued same day - we will always phone participants to cancel should this occur on the day of the event.

If you have any questions, you can phone the office on 0870065620 or ring Lisa 0418 802 361 or Ian 0488 083 337.
