<h2>Oriental: Art and architecture - Online Exhibition</h2>Welcome to our latest exhibition - Oriental: Art and architecture.Due to the COVID 19 pandemic Humble House gallery has transferred this exhibition to an Online Exhibition. This exhibition features a number of previously unseen works by our Chinese artists. Li Xinsheng is known for his evocative ink and watercolour paintings of China's northern landscapes. We have also previously displayed Cheng Yu's oil paintings of traditional women. In recent years he has become known for his figurative works skilfully executed with oil and palette knife.Juxtaposing the art are traditional carved panels. Lattice panels of individually crafted and joined pieces combine with fine detailed carving. For this exhibition we have included unique and very rare house feature carvings. These are important elements of the traditional Chinese home and contribute to the unmistakable character of Chinese architecture. Also on display for the first time are carefully selected household utility items including a date-marked storage vessel.This is a rare opportunity to see contemporary Chinese art and traditional Chinese architectural pieces side by side. Li and Cheng prefer to leave it to the viewer to make their own interpretation of the art.
