Jo Meares' Silver Bullets with Joyce Prescher Duo

JO MEARES’ SILVER BULLETS

The Silver Bullets feature the explosive and brilliant guitar work of Mark McCartney, the groove and passion of the phenomenal upright bass player Mark Carson, the hauntingly beautiful saw and backing vocals of Charlie Barker, the wonderful powerhouse that is Matt Cotter on drums and Christiaan Webb from the Webb Brothers on piano.

Jo Meares' Silver Bullets will be joined by the brilliant Joyce Prescher accompanied by her violinist:-

Dutch singer-songwriter Joyce Prescher brings a distinctly European sensibility to the Australian folk landscape. Now based in Melbourne, her songwriting blends quiet intensity with melodic richness and poetic storytelling. Through carefully layered arrangements, she explores themes of love, loss, identity and belonging with emotional clarity and nuance.

Her music has drawn comparisons to artists such as Jessica Pratt and Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief, while listeners and reviewers alike often note echoes of Leonard Cohen’s poetic depth and Nick Cave’s brooding intensity. The result is a sound that feels both timeless and contemporary – intimate, yet emotionally weighty.

Some reviews of Silver Bullets shows:-

‘….the electrifying sounds of Jo Meares’ Silver Bullets brought the audience to a standing ovation at the end of their brilliant performance, not too shabby an outcome. Mark McCartney on ripping lead guitar, brilliant, Charlie Barker on mesmerizing bow and saw, Scott Bennett on drums, Jo Meares leading the vocals and the irrepressible, wild Mark Carson on stand up double bass. A memorable session, fab night Tappy.’

‘Spent a most soul affirming, spellbound evening at George Lane immersed in the creations of Jo Meares' Silver Bullets who I was really looking forward to seeing again after a wonderful show at Lyrebird Lounge a few months back. Magnificent energy, expansive soundscapes that take you through woods, valleys, dark crevasses of your mind, interspersed with rollicking ballads and, surprisingly, a brilliant pop song! I was thrilled to find out that Jo will be recording an album with The Silver Bullets because they are one of the best bands going around...'

…OTHER COMMENTS/REVIEWS:-

‘I was hipped to this Australian singer/songwriter in the very best way: A mate kindly gave me one of his LPs and just told me to listen. I did. And I still am! Jo Meares has a dark whisper of a voice. He is like an introverted, quiet Paul Kelly. The writing is profound, the production and delivery exquisite. He might be the Aussie Bill Callahan in fact’

– Simon Sweetman, Radio NZ/Off the Tracks

‘Dream Hotel’ is a magnificent tour de force: an assemblage of pure emotion that breathes softly down your neck and take possession of your very soul. Enchanting, transfixing, mesmerising: weaving an indelible spell. This is pure magic'

- Arun Kendall, Backseat Mafia 9.5/10
