Waltzing Mathilde is a fictionalised novel based on letters and diaries written to Mathilde by friends and family that has recreated her life and incredible voyage aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1890, at the age of 12, when her grandmother sent her to Australia to live with her brother.
