Overview

Enjoy a stroll through Fish Lane and see First Nations artworks with special guest artist Rachel Bywaters.

Join us for a relaxed lunchtime stroll through South Brisbane’s vibrant Fish Lane, where striking First Nations artworks bring the streets to life through stories of culture, history and contemporary expression. Special guest artist Rachel Bywaters will join us to speak about her newly installed public artwork in Fish Lane.

The tour begins in Town Square, Fish Lane with an invitation to enjoy a warm cup of lemon myrtle tea, before winding through around 5 - 8 nearby public art sites, each just a few minutes’ walk apart. We’ll conclude at Judy Watson’s Tow Row sculpture at the entrance of the Gallery of Modern Art.

Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the cultural significance of the artworks and the creative voices behind them, all set within the heart of South Brisbane’s cultural precinct.

This family-friendly experience is suitable for all ages, with brief stops and easy walking distances throughout.

Date: Friday, 29 May
Time: 12.30–1.30pm (please arrive on time, as the tour departs promptly at 12.30pm)
Meeting Point: Town Square, Fish Lane
End Point: Tow Row sculpture, Gallery of Modern Art.

In addition to gaining a deeper appreciation of Fish Lane’s cultural art and stories, all participants will receive a gift bag featuring native-infused treats and a keepsake magnet.

These walking tours run on the last Friday of each month and offer a welcoming, informal way to connect, learn, and explore the city through art

*We encourage participants to bring along a water bottle, hat, and umbrella, as the tour is largely held outdoors and may not always be protected from the elements.
