Workshop 1 - Winter Puppets and Play- children鈥檚 workshop with Power of Play AU

Age - 4-6+ years

Cost: $10 per participantBasic art materials provided FOC. Please feel free to bring your own+recycled materials.

Event description; Beat the winter blues by playing with some quirky puppets! Meet a colorful cast of puppets (and humans!) and learn simple ways to turn everyday objects around your house in to magical characters. This workshop will include fun improv games, basic puppetry and storytelling techniques to inspire energetic minds and bodies to create memorable moments together.

Julia, artist and puppeteer from Dream Puppets, will show you how to make a 'rattle bird' from natural materials (all supplied).

Please dress comfortably and bring your favourite puppet/toy/everyday object. Grownups welcome

Workshop 2 - Moving Paper Characters with Grace

3.45pm - 5.15pm

Age - 7-12+ years

Cost: $10 per participant

Basic art materials provided FOC. Please feel free to bring your own character sketches and drawing materials

Explore the world of articulated paper puppets in this workshop with artist and educator Grace Mitchell! Create your own character then learn how to use some simple mechanisms to give them movement triggered by string! Participants will have options between building upon templates of traditional fairytale characters (Puss in Boots and Goldilocks with her bears) or creating their own characters.

Performance - Dreamer and the Rainbow Tiger by Dream Puppets

5.30-7.30pm

Age - 3- 100 + years (families welcome)

Cost: $15 per participant

Dreamer and the Rainbow Tiger is a Blacklight Puppet Theatre and suitable for ages 3+ and general family audiences. This performance is presented by the award-winning Dream Puppets - founded in 1997 with productions performed throughout Australia, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and South America in international festivals and Expos.

  • Conversations with SA Puppeteers

This 45 min performance will be followed by an hour-long open, informal conversation by experienced puppeteers about their art, inspirations and motivation, including demonstrations that explain why they have chosen this art form. Sharing of puppets (and BY puppets) by attendees is also very welcome.
