At Home in Waverley with Sam Crawford Architects
In November, AAA will be opening a residence by award winning architectural practice, Sam Crawford Architects.
The alterations and additions to this robust, single storey 50's bungalow is set within a rich landscape context on Bidjigal, Gadigal Country and supports a young family in connecting back to their garden, their home and each other whilst still allowing space for both togetherness and contemplation.
The design responds directly to the family's desire for a home that supports their evolving needs鈥攁 place that allows for growth while maintaining intimate connections. The central spotted gum staircase functions as the heart of the home, physically and metaphorically connecting spaces whilst allowing for independent inhabitation.
The clients said, 鈥渢here is artfulness incorporated into our daily lives, quiet luxury in the layered texture and detail, and a respectfulness of nature reflected in the materiality and palette. This design has fostered a mindfulness in our daily home life, in meals together and simple domesticity - an appreciation of the need to slow down and enjoy simple things鈥
